"Make it about them." Winning the Interview for Senior Military Leaders
Happy Thursday!
First and foremost, I have a guest interview coming out next Thursday! So stay tuned! 🎙 (Hint: It’s a returning guest, woohoo!)
Secondly, I just completed the most updated draft of my book, The Military Spouse Benefit Plan, and I’m mentally spent. 😮💨📚 So…
Thirdly, here is Part 3 of our interview strategy discussion for senior military leaders on Military Retirement Blueprint with Scott & Mike! We’ve gotten positive feedback for these discussions, so I figured I'd keep sharing them here! 😄
Interview Strategy Part 3: Make It About Them
In Part 1, we covered when the interview really starts.
In Part 2, we focused on execution inside the interview.
In Part 3, we address one of the most important, and most overlooked, shifts senior military leaders must make: make your interviews about the hiring managers, not about you!
Many candidates walk into interviews trying to demonstrate everything they’ve accomplished. But civilian hiring managers aren’t evaluating rank—they’re evaluating relevance.
The interview isn’t a single event, it’s a process. And preparation and clarity matter far more than seniority.
