I’m happy to say that my book is ready to market — as a free PDF download. 📥

Updates on physical copies to come! 📚

For anyone who’s written a book, I know you’ll understand when I say, “Wow, has it been quite the journey!” And I’ve enjoyed every part of it!

That being said, I felt compelled to work on my “Let Me Reintroduce Myself” post, which’ll be my way of reinvigorating my social media accounts and reengaging with our community.

Here’s the starting draft! 📝

Whether you’re visiting my profile for the first time or you’ve been following me for a while now, let me reintroduce myself!

I’m Jen Amos. I was raised as your typical, happy-go-lucky, unabashed military brat — until I was 10 years old, when we became a Gold Star Family (more on this below).

Yes, the transition to civilian life was abrupt and difficult, to say the least.

Then, fast forward 15 years, I meet my now-husband, a West Point grad and veteran. When asked about my military affiliation, I often say “veteran spouse” because I met him after his service, and I have a deep respect for active-duty spouses. Despite having my own business, I gradually transitioned to working with him at US VetWealth and fully committed when we moved to the East Coast in 2018.

By the summer of 2019, there was something I couldn’t unsee: Every time a retiring service member would schedule a Discovery Call with us to discuss the Survivor Benefit Plan, the spouse was either off-camera or not on the call at all. Given that the spouse is often the primary beneficiary and that her notarized signature can carry significant weight in the SBP decision, I was curious why she was rarely on the call.

Understanding the SBP is all about a military spouse’s choice in protecting the pension. And I know she’d agree that, with all she gave and sacrificed to the military, it’s her pension, too.

So I started a podcast, Holding Down the Fort by US VetWealth, to seek to understand. After countless interviews, recognition, and many adventures later, my podcasting journey led me to write my first book, Your Pension Too: A Military Spouse’s Guide to Making the Survivor Benefit Plan a Choice, Not a Default.

Read Now

This book is for the military spouse seeking to make a confident, informed decision about protecting their family’s hard-earned pension from a civilian perspective (by yours truly).

Why? Because you’re about to become a full-fledged civilian. We know that you’ve always straddled both worlds as a military spouse (which we believe is your superpower).

That said, we want to help you take that first life-changing step to fully embrace your next chapter — by deciding on your financial reward for your military service. Because (not that we have to remind you)… you served, too.

The PDF copy is available now at INSIDETHEFORT.COM, and it’s FREE to download (it’ll always be free).

If you want to cut to the chase, you can schedule a complimentary Discovery Call with US VetWealth.

Book Now

To be clear, it’s just a call to discover, not to decide. If there’s anything to decide, it’s only whether scheduling a second call makes sense. No big deal.

In the meantime, download the PDF copy now!

And if you’d like to get to know me more as a human being, the welcome email (when you subscribe to INSIDETHEFORT.COM) offers a FREE upgrade to my private podcast, Inside the Fort by US VetWealth. Nowadays, I share candid audio recordings that inspire my public content.

Also, DM me on Instagram @holdingdownthefortpodcast, and I’ll add you to my Close Friends list, where I’ll be doing something similar.

And that’s all for now!

I’m looking forward to re-engaging with our retiring military community!

— Jen

P.S. This is me nowadays!

My husband and I enjoy an active lifestyle, so dressing comfortably, keeping my hair in a bun, and wearing my black-framed glasses (which also serve as transition lenses 🤓😎) have become my signature look lately. And although I have a fancy mic, nowadays I prefer RØDE’s Wireless GO II (that and having the same amazing editor since 2020).
